In addition, ADVENT will build facilities throughout the world that will generate additional "pips". The Alien Fortress will generate research at a regular rate. This is the first major objective a player receives in a new campaign so usually the AVATAR Project won't stay hidden very long but it's a good idea to try and complete that objective relatively early (ideally before the end of June) in order to have a better view of the Aliens' progress.
#XCOM 2 DISABLE AVATAR TIMER SERIES#
To learn about the existence of the AVATAR Project and uncover the "Doom Meter", a player must complete a series of missions to liberate a region for the first time. Fortunately, this progress starts out slowly and the "Doom Meter" has been increased from 12 to 20 "pips" so the time required before ADVENT can win the game in the absence of XCOM intervention is longer.
As a result the Commander and thus the player don't have any knowledge about the existence of the AVATAR Project or it's progress. There is a resistance order that reduces the timer. At the beginning of the game, the Resistance has no clues about the Aliens true motivations.
You can do covert ops that offer a timer reduction. I've heard that if you get the "facility lead" hacking reward for hacking an Advent terminal, you can just attack the facility that is revealed, without contacting the region first, but that reward is rare. To attack the facility, you (usually) first need to make contact with the region where the facility is located. These are red buildings that pop up randomly on the map, usually several territories away from regions that you've already contacted.
The first two story missions are to skulljack an Advent officer (unlocked after building the Proving Grounds and purchasing/equipping a skulljack) and to infiltrate the alien blacksite (a white/tan facility on the map, in one of the regions near to where you start).ĭestroy alien facilities. You can look for guides online that tell you which missions do so.
There's also a resistance order I believe that reduces he AVATAR progress each month, but I've not seen it yet.īe aware that the Chosen have no impact on it, don't get distracted by then too much and lose sight of your goalĪs mentioned, there are a few ways to deal with the timer:Ĭomplete the story missions - most (?) of these will reduce the timer. Every one I've seen has had a moderate chance of ambush, so be aware of that.īeyond this, naturally dealing with the dark events that give AVATAR progress or increase the facility construction by two weeks will prevent AVATAR progress from happening in the first place. You'll need to have contact with the zone they are in to get them (pro tip, two or even just a single reaper can covertly plant a bomb and evacuate out, I've enjoyed 100% success rate against 3 facilities this way).Ĭompleting story events also removes some, I don't know how for you are so I won't spoil it but at some point you'll need to make something called a skulljack and use it.Ĭovert actions sometimes have an event that will reduce/sabotage the AVATAR project, from experience this removes two dots (but I am playing with a double length AVATAR project because I assumed the Chosen would be harder honestly). To deal with these, you can get Alien Facility leads to find them early, or wait till they pop up. You got alien facilities, these are red buildings that pop up on your map, some will have multiple dots under them which shows how much progress it will remove. I'm assuming you haven't played without the expansion? So I'll just fill in all the ways in WotC to deal with the AVATAR project.
